Deana
Everett Tollerton has been sewing as long as she
could hold a needle. She had some of the
best-dressed Barbies on the block. The summer
before high school, she was bitten by the
quilting bug, thanks to the internet and a stint
at Hancock’s.
After
earning a degree in History with a concentration
in Fashion and minors in Textiles and Business
from The University of Texas, Deana went to work
as a graphic designer. While she had sewn all
through college, it was not until she had more
time to devote to hobbies that she joined the
Austin Area Quilt Guild and began quilting in
earnest. Within two years, Deana went from baby
quilts to award-winning wearable art.
During
that time, she discovered longarm quilting.
Initially, she rented time from the wonderful
Jacky Peterson, before making the decision to
buy her A-1 Elite.
Today,
Deana uses her fashion background to create one
of a kind wearable art and her textiles
background to dye, paint, and batik her own
fabrics. She enjoys quilting for customers as
much as teaching them to use the longarm
themselves. Deana knows that it is important
for many quilters to have full creative control
— she feels the same way! |
